Build Credit

Yes it's true.  One of the most important things a person will need in life is good credit.  Without it, making large purchases such as a mortgage or a car, are going to be a challenge.  It is extremely important for people to build credit, whether young or old.  You never know when you will be in a situation where you need to make a large financial decision.  Creditors want to know whether or not you will be able to repay them back.  If you haven't build your credit or have no credit then they will probably not be able to get a loan.  That's why its important to start building credit early and pay everything on time.

So whats the best way to prove yourself that you are a good client to the creditor?  For starters, you should apply for a credit card if you don't already have one, and start making monthly payments in full on time. A credit card can be one of the best ways to build credit.   It is best to start slow, and over time you will develop the confidence and build the credit required for larger purchases.  It is important to not make any late payments as this can lower your credit score.  This should not be taken lightly as even one day late can have a negative impact.

It can actually be easier to obtain a store credit card rather than a major credit card.  Your credit limit may be low but the most important thing is that if you make your payments on time you will still be able to build your credit.  The secret is not the amount you are paying back, but that you are paying back on time and are consistent.  They want to see reliability.  It won't be long before you start qualifying for mortgages, car loans, or anything else you want.  However, make sure not to put your self into debt.  Don't make purchases you cannot afford to pay on time.  Before you know it you will be behind schedule and will be constantly playing cat and mouse with the credit card companies.  Don't let this happen to you.  So its a double edged sword.  Having a credit card can either build your credit, or destroy it.  So be wise with all your purchases, manage your finances, and you will be well on your way to buying whatever you may want in the future.
